Help with Linux mint applications

Post by Nyze »

When I install a program/application (discord, chrome, chroium or brave), they install properly but as soon as I open them they won't open properly. For example, when I open any of the applications, they open for a split second and then close with no error messages or anything.

Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Keep in mind I am completely new to linux, so keep your responses at a completely noob level please.

Nyze:

Some additional info might help, for example - where you acquired the programs and how you installed them?

For Example:
Found them online. Downloaded and installed them from the terminal.
Found them on the Mint software center and installed them from there.
Found them on the Synaptic Package Manager and installed them from there.
Etc.

Tell us (step by step) where you acquired the programs that are troubling you and how you installed them. As some programs need additional support/dependency files that may not automatically install.

Hope This Help

As well as providing the above answer are you able to open a terminal window?

If you can please run the command

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxxxz
Copy the output and paste into a forum reply in between

tags.

We'll also try to launch one of the applications mentioned from the terminal and see what error-messages you get. Use the command

Code: Select all

google-chrome
to try and launch Chrome Again copy the output if it fails to open and paste into your reply in between

tags.
