Speculation and suspicion are what cause searches for evidence. Shutting down same is merely a means to thwart a search for evidence.

What a piece of Crap Firefox 66.0.3 is...all but two of my add-ons are gone. Image I go to Extensions and what do I find...a message saying...
Stop complaining and inform yourself through the links below so that you know what has happened and what has been done so far.
Mozilla Add-ons Blog
ALL Add ons suddenly stopped working in Firefox 66.0.3
Did you read the Responses in the link you posted ? I did and Mozilla promised to solve the problem within 24hrs...4 days later still no fix. Image

From some Responses it seems it might not be an accident after all...Mozilla might have been trying something sneaky and it backfired but we’ll never know for sure but the trust is gone. Image

Anyway who in their right mind would run Firefox with all the security add-ons missing...not me. Image

If you think FF is such crap (I don't like it any more either) use something else. If you don't like Chrome I'd suggest Vivaldi.
I stopped using Firefox some time ago...so I only noticed this Firefox disaster yesterday...lucky me. Image I did fix the problem with Timeshift...now have Firefox 66.0.1 which has all my add-ons but it's not a permanent fix because this could happen again at any time without notice.

I had Timeshift set to take a Snapshot once a week but given the terrible updates of late...namely Firefox...Wine 4 and Vituralbox not long ago (not Mints fault) I've decided to take a Snapshot every day and delete some at the end of the week...as I don't want to go through and check all updates as I did in Windoze years ago. Image

I'm using Google Chrome and Slimjet and will Re-install Opera...it has video playback problems at times but security add-ons work...I'll take a look at Vivaldi too. :)

Yes, your Timeshifted FF 66.0.1 will very likely get hit with the add-on/extension problem pretty soon. The fix is in FF 66.0.4 or 60.6.2 ESR = has the new and valid or unexpired add-on/extension signed certificate.
....... Add-on signing was enforced by Mozilla in FF 48 Stable Release and Beta or later = cannot be disabled. It can be disabled in FF 48 ESR, Nightly and Dev or later.

When online, Firefox will auto-connect to Mozilla's add-on/extension servers every 24 hours to check on the add-on signed certificates and will disable any unsigned add-on/extension that has just been installed by the FF users.
....... This is similar to how M$'s activation servers auto-check on the digital licenses of every Windows computer that comes online, ie check once every 24 hours.

Some users in windows Firefox 66.0.4 are still having problems with all their extensions being disabled. So Mozilla has released 66.0.5 now.

Just have to wait until linux Firefox 66.0.5 will be released by the Mint developers to us.

You are wrong , it's not Mozilla dragging their heels . It's Linux Mint . Manjaro pushed 66.04 in to the repos on Sunday . 66.05 was pushed in to the Manjaro repos this morning . Aside from that you can always install manually from .deb anyway which is what I did on my Mint install so the issue is a non-issue anyway .

I can second that. Even Ubuntu has pushed out 66.0.4.

Only Mint is sitting on its hands. Why?

66.0.4 just hit the Ubuntu repository. If you use the default settings in Mint you'll receive Firefox from the Mint repository, instead of the Ubuntu one. That may take a bit longer to get updated. You can set Mint to prefer Firefox from the Ubuntu repositories using this guide: https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.c ... t.html#ID9

Should be when for Firefox 66.0.5!!

Why is the repository for Mint so slow? And, before some jerk responds saying do this or that as a workaround, I am running Mint and see no reason for subverting it with changes or workarounds. If I wanted to use a different distro, I would do so.

I didn't know NoScript (my most important addon in FireFox) is now available in Chromium. Thanks for mentioning that!

Hi all,

Received 66.0.5 in Android and Windows. Received Tor Browser 8.0.9 (they have their own way of pushing out) running in Mint 17. Ubuntu 18 is still running on 66.0.4.

What 66.0.5 fixes is here: https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2019/05 ... n-firefox/
and Mozilla recommends "we recommend updating as soon as possible. Users who enabled Studies to receive the temporary fix, and have updated to the permanent fix, can now disable Studies if they desire. "

Mint is still running 66.0.3 but with FF running Studies, the quick fix pushed out by Mozilla is working. All my add-ons are running.

Please read the above link from Mozilla on their updates for those still having trouble.

Hence I can wait for Mint to catch up as long as my Tor is fine.

This "accidental" expiry of the add-on/web-extension signed certificate looks like a sneaky plan by Mozilla Corp to recruit more Firefox users for her Studies and to push FF 56 and 52 ESR users who have been sticking to Legacy add-ons, onto FF 66.0.4 and 60.6.2 ESR.

If so, Mozilla is copying M$'s playbook, ie M$ has been using Windows Update to degrade Win 7/8.1, in order to push the users onto Win 10, which has forced Telemetry & Data collection and forced auto-updates/upgrades that will benefit M$ alot.

Did you get it via Mint's update manager?

Thanks.

Thanks. My Mint 18.3 has just received 66.0.5 but my 17.3 still in 66.0.3 and I am wondering if it will ever receive the 66.0.5.
