You can try:

Code: Select all

 sudo dpkg --configure -a

Code: Select all

 sudo apt-get install -f
If no luck, repeat the first command & reboot.

Restarted the system and retried update. There was some warning about 1 missconfigured package, but the update went fine and completed

I simply was confused that update is broken out of the box on a fresh system

Do you show any broken packages in Package Manager under Status? If so, click Edit tab, then Fix broken packages. If not, I guess you're good for now.

I had the same problem. Seems a bit serious for beginners to encounter, should really be looked into. The two commands above fixed it though!

Yeah, if the OP suspects a problem, they can run those commands. I don't think they will do any harm.

Me too, on a fresh intall (fixed the issue with the commands tho'). I had planned to install this distro on my father's laptop (he is a beginner) but I begin to hesitate.

Hello, Potato.

Please, see this other thread about the same problem: Error installing updates after installing Mint 19.1: "E: gconf2: dependency problems - leaving triggers unprocessed".
Precisely, please, see my post on the root cause and on how to recover from the problem and on how to finish the failed software update installation nonetheless in the end.

I finally installed Mint on the laptop and your method worked very well, thanks! ;)
That said, although Mint is a REALLY good distro (especially for beginners), I find that such an error should not happen after a fresh install' : new users could be really disappointed.

Hello, Potato.

Glad to learn that the steps, which I had posted, worked for you as well. :)
Be assured that I was not delighted when Update Manager ran into the problem, even though I am not a new Linux Mint user in more than one sense.

Best regards,
Karl
