Corsair iCUE Driver for Mint

Post by DriedOrange »

I'm buying my friend's Corsair Strafe keyboard, and he told me that it's got the RGB lighting, but it needs the iCUE driver from Corsair's website. I went to download it at https://www.corsair.com/us/en//icue, and it downloaded as a .msi file (don't know what that means) and I don't think making this driver work with Linux will be as easy as downloading it from their website. I've got Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa, if that helps. Thanks!

First, you're running Mint 17.3? That;s gone end of life which means end of support. You should really install a supported Mint version if you plan to connect that machine to the internet at all, it's highly vulnerable to hackers.

Second, .msi files are Windows installers and cannot be used for installling Linux drivers. There's no official Corsair Linux driver but I think this is your best bet (be prepared to read it all first):

Wow, I've been completely unaware that 17.3 has long been unsupported, but I suppose that's why nothing's come up in my Update Manager and is also probably why the linux-kernel is a level 5 security update. I've had this computer for about 4 years (built it myself) and had updated it frequently, so I didn't straight up install 17.3 from the get-go.
I've previously visited that site and downloaded the .zip file, but don't have any idea on what to do with it now, and that website doesn't give instructions for Mint.

So, going straight from Mint to a functioning Linux OS, what're some recommended Mint versions? Heck, Linux in general. The reason i put Linux on my first build was for the experience with a new OS and for the programmable aspect of it. Thanks a bunch!!

I have a rig I built myself. I am running a dual boot system. I have Windows 10 (64 bit) installed to a 500GB Solid State Drive, and I have Linux Mint 19.3 installed on a 1TB traditional hard drive. I run all my accounting work and client files in the Linux OS for security reasons. I keep windows for games and two apps. iCue is one of them, Cricut is the other. I am running an AMD RX 590 for my GPU and used a Kraken from NZXT to attach an AIO water cooler with a 240mm radiator. I also have an AIO water cooler on my CPU with a 120mm radiator. The water pumo for the GPU is plugged into my motherboard, the water pump for the CPU, and all but one of my 5 fans are wired into a Corsair Commander. The Commander requires iCue which does not work on Linux. Now my Windows 10 side has perfect cooling and my Linux side is pushing hot. The iCue software does not work in WINE, I've tried ad nauseam and gave up. Now I am working on a VM solution. I am very new to VM and can really use some help. I am posting this here because it seems the person who created this thread would benefit from the answer as well.

I have Virtual Machine installed and have created a Windows 10 guest on my Linux 19.3 host. I was even able to download and install Firefox and iCue on my guest. So far so good. Now I just have to get the guest VM to recognize and read the commander that is wired into my motherboard so iCue can do its thing in my Linux boot as well as it does in my Windows boot. If this works well I may even be able to bring my Cricut app over. It does not work in WINE either. This is where I hit the noob wall. I have no earthly clue how to force it to see the Corsair Commander. PLEASE HELP!

Mrs. J

@katalia369 Can you create a separate post for your problem? Let's not hijack the OP's problem.
@DriedOrange Can you provide the output of the terminal command

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
so we can see what your hardware is, how old your PC is, and make an OS recommendation based on that?
