Firefox >v.66 in Linux Mint 17.3

Post by cptX »

Hi, since yesterday I'm looking for a solution how to install a newer version of firefox (currently installed v.66.03) but I cannot find anything for Linux Mint 17.3 (Ubuntu 14.04). Looks like this version is not supported or not available for this versions of linux.

I tried the ppa deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/mozillateam/fi ... ext/ubuntu trusty main but nothing happened. Then I checked on the page of the ppa and the earliest supported version of linux was 16.04, so that's why the ppa hat no effect on my system.

Is there any chance to install the newest version of firefox using ppas and not by downloading it directly from Mozilla? Why is there no official update in the repositories??? Many addons don't work in v66 but work in v68 (eg. Multiple accounts). This is the main reason I need this update

Mint 17 is out of support and you won't get any updates. It's better to transition to Mint 18.x or better to 19.

Hello, cptX.

No matter whether you manage to install the most recent Firefox version
+ directly from the Mozilla website
+ as a snap package or as a flatpak package,
all this does not invalidate what Deepakdeshp had mentioned in his post above:

Linux Mint 17.3 has reached the end of its supported life at the end of April 2019. It is a deadend now.
or as xenopeek expressed it in his thread title:
Linux Mint 17.x has reached end of life; upgrade now!

Time to wake up and switch to a supported release.

Regards,
Karl
