Pub key not signed

Post by xox101 » Sat Aug 31, 2019 2:16 pm

Just set up a new install of 19.2 on a friends PC about one week after I set up the same on one of my laptops. But on this machine I can't install Waterfox from the official setup page even though I set it up on my laptop a week ago. ... e=waterfox

Using terminal results in the Pub key not signed message. Installing using the binary package works but with no PPA added to Software Sources so I assume no updates. Waterfox is available in Software Manager but again no PPA added. If I install it from Software Manager does it get updated? I have always installed Waterfox and other programs from Terminal so have no idea.

I have also installed Google Earth and Spotify from Software Manager but then Update Manager cannot download updates as it throws up the below error message. Pub key not signed for Spotify and no support for i386 for Google Earth. This is a 64 bit machine.

W:Skipping acquire of configured file 'main/binary-i386/Packages' as repository ' stable InRelease' doesn't support architecture 'i386', W:GPG error: stable InRelease: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 4773BD5E130D1D45, E:The repository ' stable InRelease' is not signed.

I understand the Pub key not signed is a security issue but security is only any good if it is usable. Stopping me from installing programs and then getting updates for those programs in the future does not seem very secure to me. Even worse letting me install a program and then complaining that updates can't be downloaded is just plain confusing.

Or am I just missing the bleeding obvious here?

See if the solution here helps the Spotify issue:
