I still cannot key in Chinese characters although I have selected Chinese.

Post by Matthew_Wai »

I use Mint 19 Cinnamon (64-bit) in English and have installed the following packages:

Code: Select all

ibus ibus-table ibus-table-quick ibus-table-quick-classic ibus-table-quick3
  ibus-table-quick5
In "Language Settings", I have selected "IBus" as the input method. And I have selected "Chinese" as shown below. However, I still cannot key in Chinese characters. What should I do?

"super-language-pack-zh_TW" cannot be located. What should be used instead of "zh_TW"?

Code: Select all

matthew@pc:~$ apt-get install --print-uris super-language-pack-zh_TW
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package super-language-pack-zh_TW
I have Windows, UnionTech OS, and Linux Mint on the same HDD.

A search of google would have told you that there is no such animal as super-language-pack-zh_TW.

One more google search would have led you here: https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keyw ... ge-pack-zh

All packages there are translations. What I need is a Chinese input method rather than a Chinese translation.

Is it possible to install "Traditional Chinese" below via Terminal? What are the commands?

I did the following and, like a breeze, can get various ways of inputting Chinese:

1. in LANGUAGE, add Chinese (the region(s) of Chinese you prefer);
2. in Synpatic Package Managerinstall all 10 packages of "gcin" displayed ;
3. RESTART linux mint; then you would see a language applet in the panel, clicking it will show all kinds of Chinese input methods with shortcut keys listed;

enjoy!
