date format in Thunderbird

Post by random_jc » Thu Sep 05, 2019 2:54 pm

I would like to set up the date format displayed in Thunderbird as YYYY-MM-DD. This is what the en_DK locale is supposed to be doing, so I set my system to this locale.

Code: Select all

~ $ locale
LANG=en_DK.UTF-8
LANGUAGE=en_DK
LC_CTYPE="en_DK.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC="en_DK.UTF-8"
LC_TIME="en_DK.UTF-8"
LC_COLLATE="en_DK.UTF-8"
LC_MONETARY="en_DK.UTF-8"
LC_MESSAGES="en_DK.UTF-8"
LC_PAPER="en_DK.UTF-8"
LC_NAME="en_DK.UTF-8"
LC_ADDRESS="en_DK.UTF-8"
LC_TELEPHONE="en_DK.UTF-8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="en_DK.UTF-8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_DK.UTF-8"
LC_ALL=en_DK.UTF-8
Despite this, Thunderbird still displays the date in the form DD/MM/YYYY. I also tried to create a S00Locale.sh file as described here, but this doesn't work either. Any suggestion?

Try this add-on: Enhanced Date Formatter. You will be able to set whatever format you want, no matter what your locale is.

This worked wonderfully, I thank you a thousand times for this solution!

EDIT: well, this does change the displays as I like, but the template used when I reply to a message ("On [date], [name] wrote") still uses the wrong date format. This will cause confusion to the people with whom I correspond, so I would really like to fix that as well. I saw that there is the add-on "SmartTemplate4" that seems to be doing this, but long-term usage requires to buy a 5$/year licence.
