Does anyone know of a software program for playing DVD movies in Mint 18.3?
Yes, I know this is outdated, but we don't subscribe to hulu/other.

Re: software for playing DVD movies
Personally I like the "mpv" player because it is very light weight overall in comparison to VLC which seems to have become a little problematic over the last 2 years...DAMIEN
Code: Select all
sudo apt install mpv

Re: software for playing DVD movies
I use VLC 3.08 (flatpak)
I still have to meet an audio or video file that can't reproduce.
Mint version 18.3 (I also use this version of Mint) has VLC series 2 but I managed to upgrade
(view: viewtopic.php?f=48&t=297624)
I don't remember if VLC 2 is present by default in the installation or if it must be installed separately through the application manager
Note that if you remove the old VLC version 2 by installing mint-meta-codecs it will be installed again.
With MPV I did not find myself due to an essential interface, with many movies I could not reproduce subtitles even if present.
However, standard Mint 18 is supplied with a good multimedia reproducer (Xplayer 1.6.1) that from the tests I did works well but I still prefer again VLC

Re: software for playing DVD movies
smplayer and mpv player can be installed at the same time through the repositories via just installing smplayer, it will download both the front and back end of both since they are the same family of players and will have all of those things included...DAMIEN
