Firejail problem w/ Firefox & xreader (sort of solved)

Post by Prsman » Tue Oct 15, 2019 12:40 am

Hello everyone. I am having a problem with firejail. My sister has the same problem with her install of firejail.
I searched the web and github and cant find a solution. I am using 18.3 Cinnamon and my sister is using 19.2 Cinnamon.
We both installed version firejail_0.9.56.2-LTS_1-amd64.deb. After install we ran:

Code: Select all

firecfg --fix-sound
then:

Code: Select all

sudo firecfg
Firecfg created all the symlinks. Click on firefox and it opens with the not default browser message. Cant set it to default in preferences. As for xreader, does not start at all. Doing

Code: Select all

sudo firecfg --clean
and adding firejail in launcher
command fixes the problem. So does removing firejail with

Code: Select all

sudo apt purge firejail
I ran

Code: Select all

firejail --debug firefox
and saved it as text file. I dont see any errors but what do I know. 40k file.
Different computers, same app, different versions of Cinnamon desktop, same problem. There's something in common here.
Any ideas? Thanks

Firejail's default profiles are very restrictive. You can write your own profiles.

Thanks for the reply gm10. I dont have a clue how to write my own profile. What I did do was copy the firefox profile file
to a text file. This is the profile used when it fails. Then I did this:

Code: Select all

cd /usr/local/bin
sudo unlink firefox
Then I added firejail to a desktop launcher and started firefox. Firefox started without error. Then:

Code: Select all

cat /etc/firejail/firefox.profile
Compared this profile with the earlier text file copy and no change in the file. The link in /usr/local/bin > /usr/bin/firejail
seems to be the cause. As I have a work around I will close this problem. Thanks
(EDIT) I also ran firejail --debug firefox command with the link active and without the link active. Compared the two files with

Code: Select all

diff -y File1 File2
the files have a lot of differences. Dont know what the differences mean.

Just so you're clear on what you did, you're now running Firefox without Firejail (that's what the symbolic link was for).

If you ever want to experiment with your own profiles, those go into ~/.config/firejail (you'll have to create that). Here's a simple example of how you can use a default profile but override parts of it:

Code: Select all

ignore apparmor
ignore nodbus
include /etc/firejail/chromium.profile

whitelist ${HOME}/Pictures
Good luck! ;)
