high cpu usage in Skype (also after a call) (version: 8.53.0.85)

Hi everyone!

In the last version of Skype (8.53.0.85, released more or less a week ago) I have the following problem. The CPU usage during a video call is very high, so high that the fan activates during the call all the time. Moreover, after a call the CPU usage remains high (unchanged) and the fan remains active. The only solution is to close Skype.

I also deleted the folder $HOME/.config/skypeforlinux, but nothing relevant changed.

Does anyone have the same problem?

Thank you for your answers!

Yes, same problem here, I switched to Linux two weeks ago. I don't remember it has been like this before the update

As far as I am concerned, the high CPU usage is a problem of version 8.53.0.85. In previous versions there was no such problem. Maybe other problems... but not this one.

Turns out the new app/update is bloated. You might want to try playing with IM appearance settings. Try unchecking 'show large emoticons' and 'show animated emoticons' and restart the app or your system

same issue here (8.53.0.85), CPU remains high after a call with screen sharing.
I tried to check the Electron Developer tools (Debug mode: CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-D -> CTRL-SHIFT-I) for console errors ... unfortunately nothing.
Profiling also didn't show anything.

Instead of restarting skype, reloading CTRL-R in Debug mode also fixes the CPU usage.

Same issue here. And it seems to be the same problem with the new version of skypeforlinux, version 8.54.0.85 (I was waiting for new version that would have fix this issue)

Before 8.53.0.85 I didn't see this problem, but after updated to the 8.53.0.85 this behave started. On my laptop the skypeforlinux use about 40% during video-call (total 6 process with the name skypeforlinux, one using 35-39% another 3-5% and the rest much less), but the total of CPU in Skype-call is around 50-100% so there is other processes while on Skype using CPU allot too.
But after ending the call Skype will still be using about 25-30% of the CPU (drop down from 6 process to 5 with the name skypeforlinux, and one of thees using 25-30%). And the fan is on full speed all the time.

Only way that I have been using, is to restart the Skype program. Then the CPU usage drops down, and the fan will have a brake :)

I am using Linux mint 19.2 Tina (but a week ago I was using Linux Mint 18.2 with the same problem there).
