Re: Audio qjackctl does not start

Post by trytip »

why are you showing me the patchbay window when the window in question is Connect ?
As mentioned an my last post VLC tools-- preferences--audio--output module is set to automatic and not jack, because there is no option to choose jack for output module in VLC player.
ok now we have established your jackaudio server is not running, but the GUI for jackaudio is. (qjackctl)
But SP doesnt start . After starting SP in a terminal I always get
quit trying to start it UNLESS jackaudio server is running. you will always get a frozen SP if you run it and jackaudio is not present to capture it.

But SP doesnt start . After starting SP in a terminal I always get

Code: Select all

could not open file /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/info
libpng warning: iCCP: known incorrect sRGB profile

And there's that darn card 0 again. It's looking for the info file for card 0 device 0, which doesn't exist on your system, and wouldn't help anyway if it did as it's the HDMI card.

The only suggestion I can make at the moment is to go into pavucontrol and turn off the HDMI card on the Configuration tab to see if that helps any.

Sorry for the confusion. The connect figure looks like this after I start SP.

Is there a good alternative to SP which runs on Linux? https://alternativeto.net/software/sonic-pi/
Has anybody tried the alternatives?

Don't use sudo with pavucontrol. Just to be safe, run sudo chown -Rc $USER:$USER $HOME to clean up any permissions issues. Then just pavucontrol in the terminal to launch it and double check that the HDMI card is still off for your user.

Ran the chown command. Yes, HDMI card is off.

sorry bud your jackaudio is not running, trying to start SP if you have no jackaudio you get a frozen splash screen which you have to use system monitor to kill
you should quit messing about with SP until your jackaudio is running and you get a connect window that looks like mine.
start your jack audio and give these outputs back: this is what i have:

Code: Select all

pacmd list-sinks | sed -n "/^.*name:/s/.*<\(.*\)>.*/\1/p"
mint03@mint03:~$ pacmd list-sinks | sed -n "/^.*name:/s/.*<\(.*\)>.*/\1/p"
alsa_output.pci-0000_07_00.1.hdmi-stereo
alsa_output.pci-0000_07_00.6.analog-stereo
ladspa_output.compressed
ladspa_output.equalized
ladspa_output.normalized
jack_out
mint03@mint03:~$
if you don't have that it's like trying to put a carpet on the floor, but you don't have a floor to stand on

You are correct, jack_out isnt there. I though strting qjackctl starts jack audio. But the jackd daemon does start when I start qjackctl. What's the correct method to start jack?

Code: Select all

ps -e |grep jack
 7615 pts/0 00:00:01 qjackctl
 7633 ? 00:00:02 jackd

i click the start button in qjackctl
never once used patch bay or terminal when playing with jackaudio. you need to start over, retrace your steps or timeshift before you started. you were trying to get to third base by jumping over first and second.
start your jackaudio and give these outputs back:

I wish I knew what's wrong with your system when it comes to sonic-pi. I would have thought once you got Audacious running properly through jack, sonic-pi would've worked.

If you're feeling lucky, you could try deleting the .sonic-pi folder (while sonic-pi is NOT running) then launch it and see if it connects to jack.
