[SOLVED] Software free for Canon TS5050 doest not recognize the device

Post by klas88 »

I have bought a Canon ts5050. I installed the dirvers by following the steps of this topic and works, viewtopic.php?t=246120

But I have a problem. The scanner can only use with Vuescan, this application detect the scanner, but it is not free. I have tried other aplications but nevertheless don't detect the scanner (Simple Scan, Gscan2pdf, Skanlite, XSane). The only option free, is of the terminal command of the previous topic, but I cannot select a quality or any other issue... (it is a very crappy tool). Nor can I choose to print double page in the libre office..

Any solution?

Hello klas88,

have you downloaded and installed scangearmp from Canon website (deb file for Linux)?

https://www.canon-europe.com/support/co ... anguage=en

If yes, try the next, if not, install scangearmp first.

Adding sane-ppa:

Code: Select all

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:rolfbensch/sane-git

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get upgrade
If it doesn't work immediately, try it with a reboot.

Hello klas88,

you haven't used the commands I've posted in the right way. You've added spaces. Please select the commands, copy and paste it in the terminal.

Ok! it works after execute sudo apt-get install -f

Now, I want to print double-page manually (the printer is not automatic), but I cannot configure that option in libreoffice, in the duplex option only allow choosing between <ignorate> and off

Then you should be happy, that scanning works now :D

I'm sorry, I don't know freeoffice and its printing options. Maybe someone here knows it. Have you tried it with the default installed LibreOffice?

How sure are we of this repository?

I had a similar problem with my MX920 and I set up in the printer a directory that is on my computer that it should send scanned files to.

I get nervous with these outside the distro repositories.

You have to go into your printers preferences to set things up.

The only option in printer preferences to "duplex printing" is "apagado"=off (translated to English). I can't turn it on

It is not that easy, at least not for me. You have to access your printer across your network.

http:// 192.168.1.??? what ever the IP is for your printer. Here the printer will ask the IP of your computer and the directory that you want to save your PDF to. In my case I had to tell Samba to share that directory.

This process is set up for Windows, so you have to translate some of the language into what it means in Linux. For Windows, they have a executable files that just does it all for you.

To be honest, you really need to read the User Manual, because since you cannot run the executable, you have to set up a bit of work manually.

I have a correction to make. This is how I set up my Dell Printer, not the Canon. I can use a browser to access my Canon and Dell both via IP. I assume the two procedures are analogous.

Also, Canon has some of the best tech support ever. They never get frustrated and make me feel bad about dumb questions. They are good.
