[Solved] FireFox so much faster than Chrome - Why?

Post by robert.thompson »

Hello:

I have been using Chrome for ever on my Lenovo T520 with Linux Mint. Presently running the most current version.

I noticed that the response of FireFox is almost instantaneous but Chrome is really slow.

Any ideas as to why this is?

Thanks,

Rob.

It could be all the telemetry crud that Chrome uses to send your data to their servers?
I use Firefox and Slimjet in LM; no telemetry, fast as greased lightning.

I use Chromium and it is as fast or faster than FireFox in my testing. I rarely ever use FireFox, but just did now to test out your opinion. I don't use Chrome, but I'd have to disagree based on my test with Chromium.

I installed Slimjet from its webpage but it does not appear in my menu system - how do I launch it?

Thanks,

Rob.

It's under Menu/Intenet/FlashPeak Slimjet
If not, reboot.

What you actually might have done was probably "download" the .deb pkg from the website...did you then open up "downloads" in the "File" "Home" folder and then install it by clicking on the .deb installer???...DAMIEN

Another possibility is that you clicked on the main slimjet page on the big button that says download...if so, that was an .exe installer for windows, and will of course, not work...if your runniing a 64 bit system, just click on the URL below...it will immediately download the .deb installer into your download folder...just click on the installer after that and it will be installed...DAMIEN

When I work with Americans, they report all things google as the fastest. In Australia, I find the Google servers are frequently the slowest. If a Web site does something stupid, like download Javascript from a Google server, the rest of the page has to wait hundreds of extra milliseconds for each Google download. Use the Firefox network display to look at the download delays in your country.

everything has telemetry. you need to learn how to block it with hosts or browser extensions
Telemetry, which Mozilla introduced in Firefox 7 back in 2011, provides data to Mozilla which the organization uses to refine its products.
