Don't install the new Teamviewer.

Post by ronsmeyer »

There was a Teamviewer update today. New version 15.5.3, Old version 15.4.4445. Every connection now says "Cannot connect to partner". :(
I've spent half the morning running Timeshift and putting everything back to the way it was. It's working again. Geez...don't need this now.

I didn't get any notice for TV updates.

Arrrg - - YES - got that update, earlier Today
:?

so, rang my Mate & Tested TV out - - works just fine.
:D

YEP - I've been caught out, as well, and it's rather tricky,
- when you're wanting to Remote into someone's PC.
& the TV won't work, correctly.

09 May 2020

I was at a friend's home and giving him a helping hand with software.

He flew these things in Vietnam, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hughes_OH-6_Cayuse
and every Jet aircraft in the military lineup, and is a retired FedEx pilot.....
loved talking with him, he is about 3 years my senior, and a great guy....
but computers and networks? uh, out of his pay grade.

his desktop is a Win10 Gateway PC, and he has trouble with getting a lot of stuff done with it....
simple things like which program to use to save a screenshot... lordy did I learn to hate Paint-3d in a hurry yesterday

Tried to install the old Win7 Paint.exe but Win10 refuses to allow it to run, even in Compatibility Mode.

Finally, just installed GIMP, and wallah! he said that is easier to use than all that other crap...
so I made him a short punch list to import images, do a selection and cut out just what he wants, and export it...
he is happy...

Then, I got to thinking, it would be nice to put Teamviewer on his PC, and I remembered trying to talk people thru how to do that w/o running into the claimed "Commercial Use" problems...

for me, it installed slick as a gut...... I selected Custom Install for Remote use, and refused to create an account.
I set up a Remote Password that only I know and then I tried it out on my 19.3 Cinnamon laptop, and logged into his PC easy as pie. Not a single complaint about "Commercial Use"

IMO, folks need to avoid creating accounts for Teamviewer.
Just make a record of how it is installed, preferably do it yourself, as he will never understand what it is doing...

I have done this for several friends.... for others who try to install it themselves, and they don't know what the selections mean, they invariably hit the "Commercial Use" message....

that's not very cost effective, at USD$3.34 /mth
- even if you do need to support more than 3+ folks, Per Month.

It seems that your experience with AnyDesk is the same as my experience with Teamview, and your experience with Teamviewer is the same as my experience with AnyDesk! :D
