Mint version 20

Post by rjsrjs »

Hello Need some help/advice over here:

Linux Mint 20 is coming out soon. I will probably do an in place upgrade eventually. Like I've done with past versions of mint. With upgrading to version 20, do you think I'll have to worry about the kernel version that come with the upgrade? My current kernel is 4.15.0.101 with mint 19.3. My laptop is a Lenovo T430 which is an older model but works perfectly with Linux Mint 19.3. I like to keep up with the latest if I can.
Thanks to all.

Hi rjsrjs

I downloaded Ubuntu 20 and tested it on my 9 year old Latitude e6430 and it worked flawlessly. Hopefully you'll find the same, and hopefully Mint 20 will be as flawless as Mint has been for many years.

You should be fine, while I'm running a 4.15 kernel on my T430, I have run it with a 5.x kernel with no problems. Worst comes to the worst, you can always revert to 4.15 if you do an upgrade as opposed to a clean install. I don't see any point in running the 'latest and greatest' if the current kernel works okay.
