I went to check the weather just now, and I keep getting an error message saying "Forecast not available". I tried refreshing it, but it didn't work. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, and that didn't work either. What are your suggestions?

Don't sweat it, I have it installed, too.
It used to display the local forecast, now it says "forecast not available" just like yours. Probably a server problem or something.

If it's a server problem, should I just wait for it to fix itself?

Well, I guess so. I'll also check it from time to time and report back.

if i recall correctly the yahoo service which the weather app relies on went down for mate and ever since then mint hasn't come with a weather app installed any more.

I'm not sure what app you are using as I would like to have a working one myself however ever since the yahoo service went down weather apps have become a thing of the past I believe.

MATE's weather applets don't use Yahoo - however your correct that it's service provider is going through a process of updating their servers so out of the box MATE's native weather doesn't work right now without tweaks.

I believe Gnome weather uses the same provider for some of it's locations.

Cinnamon's weather applet and desklet work just fine - they use an entirely different set of weather providers.

Well, the weather applet of Cinnamon is indeed cooler. Thank you @smurphos for the suggestion.

@SpongebobFan1994, you can use the same, if you will. You just need to right-click the bottom panel, select applets, find weather on the download tab, download it and add to the panel with the plus (+) sign.

The icing on the cake is; it allows using more than one weather service in its config, which you can reach by clicking the cogs on the installed applets list.

Right click on the applet > Configure. You can change temperature units there.
