The command is winecfg, not wine control.

When you type winecfg into the terminal, you get the configuration applet for wine. :)

when i install steam i cant see the text for the buttons
when i get to the account creation window
i found out that i needed the fonts from windows
so i did this
mv tahoma.ttf ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/fonts/
mv marlett.ttf ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/fonts/
but i still cant see the text to install steam
it shoud look like this http://help.boomtown.net/en_uk/help/gui ... uides_game
then i tried using a symlink
cd ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/
mv Steam/ Steam.backup/ (or you can just delete the directory)
ln -s /mnt/windows_partition/Program\ Files/Steam/
this did not work either
help please :D

I went to the wine website and they stated that the wine that is in the repositories is not the wine that is currently working. they have not gotten the updated wine into the deb repository. you can manually add the new wine address to your repository but i have had no luck in doing this with mint. can't figure out why either.

I don't think that these apps will work with wine. You probably need something like cedega ... or Windoze XP

You shouldn't be pirating stuff anyway, you smart person you  And talking publicly about it is not so intelligent, even if software piracy should be legal in the territory where you live it gives this forum and its administrators lots of unwanted attention. :?

you should do what i do... have a linux mint on one partition and a lightweight slim partition for WinXP... like 10-12 gigs should do... rebooting is a chore but meh, easiest way right?...

(i got ragnarok to work under linux but for some reason its awefully slow... :/ )

I have wine running and it does work mostly, but once I have a program installed it no longer recognizes the optical drive. It doesn't work with Exact Audio Copy or DVDshrink in which I use to back up my discs. I did try to use winecfg to at first auto detect then I tryed manuelly. please help me figure this out. (my daughter likes her computer programs and she can't play them now)

Hey man, just get your terminal out, type in winecfg, then it will either prompt you to type in the following
sudo apt-get install wine

If that fails, (which is did for me) then it asked me to update "apt-get update" which it did, i then retyped in the sudo apt-get install wine and hey presto wine installed for me!

Hope that helps! :)

hi i had same prob but this is how i got round it. Boot into windows go to C:windows\fonts. Copy the whole fonts folder to some sort of portable hard drive or disk boot back into Linux and copy all fills into wine\drive_c\windows\fonts.
hope this helps.
