Repositories not displayed in Update Manager

Post by growlebear1 »

Update Manager--Edit--Software Sources shows an empty box where I expected a repository list.
Calling Update Manager from Synaptic gets the same result. I don't often attempt to access the Software Sources, so I don't know how long this has been going on. No problems needing a repository change for a couple of months. Any ideas?

Try running the code below and then reboot to see if it will pick up on the updater and software manager...DAMIEN

Code: Select all

sudo apt update

Thanks for replying.
Did your suggested sudo apt update and reboot. No change. Still no repositories listed.
I don't need to change repositories, just wanted to refresh my (failing) memory regarding which ones I was using and found it blank (kinda like my memory)

Did your suggested sudo apt update and reboot.
It would have really been interesting to read, what the commandline displayed in the terminal window.
It might have given a hint why mintsources displays an empty window. (Too bad you did not share its output.)
In case sudo apt update succeeded without any errors, however, in this case, it may really be wise to follow sleeper12's piece of advice.

Another way to see the repositories is using the following in terminal:

Code: Select all

inxi -r

Karlchen: I did not notice an error.

Larry78723: Yes, as listed in my system report. However, if there's a need to change them, I no longer have the option.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what the OP is trying to do or the OP is possibly misstating what they're trying to do. In Update Manager, if you click on Edit -->Software Sources, you should get an authentication request then it should open the Software Sources app which shows the Mirrors to download from.

@ growlebear1 - Is that where you're seeing a blank box?

Larry78723: Yes, that's correct. Is there another way to display/change repositories? Synaptic links back to it, with the same empty box.

@sleeper12 - that second line should be pkexec mintsources when run from terminal.

I tried that. Results:
(both results were preceeded by a password request, BTW)
growlebear@bearrug:~$ pkexec mintsources
growlebear@bearrug:~$ Your operating system codename 'ulyana' is not supported, entering compatibility mode.

The line that puzzles me is:

Reinstallation of mintsources is not possible, it cannot be downloaded.

Try the link he gave you and post back.

BTW - Both of those commands work on my machine. Sounds like Timeshift time.

I was thinking maybe #3 there, but not sure.

Ok, no clue what that means. Maybe time for Timeshift?
