[SOLVED] Install .txz file

Post by vatosflokos »

Hello,
I need to downgrade my version of Calibre to 4.23 to make use of the Drm plugin for some kindle books that I want to convert to pdf.
I have totally removed my previous version 5.5 of calibre and now on my desktop, I have a shiny, de-compressed folder of Calibre ver. 4.23.
The thing is that I can not find any installation notes, .make and ./configure commands are totally useless leaving with no option but to ask for your help
The package was downloaded from here https://download.calibre-ebook.com/4.23.0/ What steps should I follow so I can complete the installation?
I really REALLY thank you for this...
Eddie.

.txz is a slackware installer file - you can open it with an "archive manager" like file-roller to see the content (.deb files are similar).

Try installing calibre with a .deb file from here: https://pkgs.org/download/calibre
...although I don't see a 4,23 version for ubuntu or debian; Ubuntu versions go from 3.21 to 4.99 with nothing between.

Also try an internet search on "Calibre" "4.23" ".deb" you might find one ...
Please edit your original post title to include [SOLVED] if/when it is solved!
Your data and OS are backed up....right?
