[Solved] How to install Virtualbox 6.1 Mint 19.3
I solved the issue, I found the correct build on Oracle's Website.
How do I install Virtual Box 6.1? on Mint 19.3 I went to Oracle's Website and did not know which build to download and guessed Ubuntu because I assumed Mint is Ubuntu Based, there was no Mint Build. When I tried to install the ones I downloaded they would not install and got an error message
dependency is not satisfiable (>=2.29)
I have Cinnamon Version 4.4.8
Linux Kernel 5.4.0-70 generic
Thanks

Re: How to install Virtualbox 6.1 Mint 19.3
Who knows. You don't tell us what you actually downloaded. We need at least a link to whatever you read and whatever you downloaded, and "dependency is not satisfiable (>=2.29)" is incomplete.
Please post the output of
inxi -Fxz
from a terminal and enclose it in code tags [code]output.here[/code]
. You'll see the code tags icon </>
when you reply. Also, please read this link: how to get help, especially section 5. It will tell you what we need to be told so that we can assist you.Re: How to install Virtualbox 6.1 Mint 19.3
Mint 19.3 is based on Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic. Therefore you would want the "Ubuntu 18.04 /18.10 / 19.04" package.
There are also helpful instructions here: Installing VirtualBox on Ubuntu and Debian-based Linux distributions.

Curious, is there a reason why you want Mint 19.3 and not 20.1?
Re: How to install Virtualbox 6.1 Mint 19.3
Taslimdal, have you tried
If you are using an Ubuntu 18.04 base, this should install Virtualbox version 5.
The "Dependency not satisfiable" message is shown because Virtualbox 6 is not available on Ubuntu 18.04 base. There are some complicated tricks you can do to install version 6 but I don't recommend it.
Code: Select all
sudo apt install virtualbox-qt

Re: How to install Virtualbox 6.1 Mint 19.3
Probably.
The issues you experienced upgrading were likely more related to the upgrade and not inherent in version 20 itself. Major version upgrades are always tricky. You really ought to strip your system down to as bare bones of a configuration as you can, and then build it back up again. The upgrade instructions are good, and the upgrader itself is good, but neither are perfect. Think of the Mint installer as a robotic system that builds cars from the ground up. It built you a version 19...er...2019 model car. Then the robot was programmed with how to build 2020 cars, and as a bonus, since it knows the difference between 2019 and 2020 cars it can actually take a 2019 car and upgrade it to a 2020. So you take your car in and park it in the booth. But since you bought it, you installed custom rims, a spoiler, aftermarket turbocharger, etc. Now imagine those robot arms reaching for where it thinks part A is and finding part B. The result isn't pretty.
Since you were installing from scratch anyway, going right to 20.1 would have been the best idea to avoid upgrade issues. Now you've bought a future problem. Can't skip versions when upgrading and version 19 goed EOL in 2023. Not only that, but it's based on a now very old Ubuntu version that new stuff isn't going to be targeting.
If you haven't done too much with it yet, I'd install 20.1. Or you might try upgrading it now. If nothing else it will give you more upgrade experience.

Not correct, running VB6.0 on LM19.0 with no issues, installed from oracle and it doesn't require any 'complicated tricks'.

Re: How to install Virtualbox 6.1 Mint 19.3
As far as I know, you have to rebuild VBox kernel modules for version 6 with something like
Code: Select all
sudo /sbin/vboxconfig
Re: [Solved] How to install Virtualbox 6.1 Mint 19.3
And my question is 'Why'? VBox 5.2 (the version for Mint 19) works perfectly, and the only difference that I can see (I have both 5.x and 6.x) is the graphical interface is a bit different. Functionality appears to be the same.
Re: [Solved] How to install Virtualbox 6.1 Mint 19.3
The VirtualBox 5.2 series is no longer maintained & supported by its' owner - Oracle.
