Gdebi errors in Mint 20.1 when installing Chrome.

Post by Eridanus7 »

1) If you double click a .deb file to activate gdebi-gtk and decide not to continue, then it is not possible to close the gdebi GUI without using “force-quit” (an item that one can add to your panel/taskbar.)

2) Running the GUI version of gdebi to install Chrome or Vivaldi results in error messages;-

"An unhandled error occurred”

Whilst you can close the error msg, again one cannot close gdebi without forcing a quit.

3) However, if you save the .deb file in Downloads then run gdebi from a terminal the system will correctly install the required file. For example;-

Code: Select all

sudo gdebi ~/Downloads/google-chrome-stable_current_amd64.deb
Whilst this does not solve gdebi GUI related problems, it does provide an easy work around.

As this error does not seem to appear in the forums it may be unique to this system.
