Thunderbird Mail and GContactSync Incompatibility

In a "previous life," I drove systems developers up the walls about PIM sync functionality. Dear old Microsoft does it so well in getting Windows 10 to "talk to" Outlook, syncing especially contacts. As a Linux solution, I always synced my Google account to Thunderbird via an add-in called G Contacts Sync.

Sadly, the new versions of Thunderbird is incompatible with that little tool. I could uninstall Thunderbird and replace it with Evolution, but will I break Ulyssa when I do that? (My only trouble with Cinnamon ever was after I uninstalled bundled bloatware such as Firefox.)
