Solaar permissions issue

Post by marts123 »

Hi
I'm trying to find a way to use my Logitech unifying receiver not only for use with my mouse, where it works perfectly, but also with a logitech keyboard.
To that end I downloaded Solaar from the software manager.
Unfortunately i get this error message when I run Solaar. (I did unplug and re insert it)

Running lsusb, I know I defo have a unifying receiver :)

Code: Select all

check who "owns" /dev/hidraw1 -- perhaps you're missing a group (e.g. I know a lot of serial stuff uses 'dialout' as the group, which isn't a default group anymore).

Well running ls -l /dev/hidraw1 gives me this:

Code: Select all

martin@martin-ThinkPad-T430:~$ ls -l /dev/hidraw1
crw------- 1 root root 240, 1 Apr 13 20:23 /dev/hidraw1
I did read somewhere about adding myself to the plugdev group, but its a bit of a shot in the dark as I have no idea of the consequences..

Really don't know where to go from here.

plugdev might do it then.

You can check your current groups with the command "groups"

Code: Select all

$ groups
djph adm mail dialout cdrom floppy audio dip video plugdev netdev lpadmin scanner
(Not sure what of those are default in mint, I'm checking a Debian box)

If you're not already in plugdev:

Code: Select all

sudo usermod -a -G plugdev youraccounthere
Just replace "youraccounthere" with your actual user account; then reboot.

Thanks, but adding myself to plugdev didnt work.
I tried running

Code: Select all

sudo solaar
which outputted some critical error, but did allow solaar to run.
Then, trying to pair my keyboard resulted in a popup message saying the keyboard wasn't compatible and cant be paired.
Exiting that popup on to the Solaar main GUI tells me the keyboard is paired and shows the model number etc.
Trouble is the keyboard still doesn't work.
I think Ill just accept this ain't going to work..:)
