[Solved] cinnamon crashes on boot when i remove my samba share from fstab

Post by scratch178 »

i have a strange problem, i have my samba share mounted via fstab with this line:

Code: Select all

//192.168.1.44/media /mnt/Media cifs username=user,password=pw,uid=1000,x-gvfs-show,x-gvfs-name=Media 0 0
this works perfectly fine, but when i remove this line from fstab, cinnamon crashes on every boot and goes to fallback mode,
i can logout and in again and everything works fine again.

for clarification i want to remove the samba share from fstab,
any ideas on how this can be fixed?

im running LM 20.1

Pure speculation on my part but I wonder if there's something in your user's config settings that is looking for something in /mnt/Media. As it's no longer there, it could be triggering a fault.

Worth searching all your files for any reference to that directory.

What happens when you boot and your NAS or whatever the share is hosted on is not available, e.g. turn it off?

I can't think of a reason why deleting the entry in fstab should cause a problem. Clutching at straws - have you made any manual changes to smb.conf.
