Where does OpenVPN install?

Post by kwami »

Okay, stupid question. I used to use Windscribe for downloads on my old Windows laptop. Windscribe does not seem to support Mint, but when checking VPN's I found that OpenVPN is already installed on my new Linux laptop. Great! except that I can't locate it. It's not in my list of installed apps. So, how do I start it, and do I need to subscribe to an external service like Windscribe to enable downloads over it?
Thanks!

You don't. You import .ovpn files into Network Manager.

Thanks.
Which VPN services are popular for Mint? Do you know if Windscribe works?

Any VPN provider that offers downloadable ovpn files will do, except NordVPN. I don't generally recommend the use of a VPN provider's own clients. Other than that, it's really a personal choice. I use vyprvpn. Others will have a different preference.
