More problems with update manager
Since mid February I have not been able to get auto updates to work in Update Manager. So I have been manually updating. Today I tried to update and it seems stuck (see screenshot)

Re: More problems with update manager
Do you have a Timeshift snapshot from when the system was working properly? That is usually the easiest way to restore to a working system.
I have not done troubleshooting with Update Manager, but perhaps uninstalling minupdate and reinstalling might help if you do not have a Timeshift snapshot.

Re: More problems with update manager
Problem dates back to February, so I don't have any snapshots that far back. I tried
but it didn't help
I will try uninstalling and installing. Are these the commands?
Code: Select all
$ sudo apt-get install --reinstall synaptic mintupdate

synapitc
is needed. According to this post it is not needed. The OP of that thread is also having issues. The person in this thread (SOLVED) LM 20.1 update manager problem resolved the issue with a Timeshift snapshot.

Re: More problems with update manager
Inside Synaptic Package Manager it is pretty easy to check the dependencies of the software package mintupdate ... and find out that mintupdate does depend on synaptic.
The really mean thing is that there is a touchpad driver named Synaptics. mintupdate does not depend on the touchpad driver.

Re: More problems with update manager
Are you indicating one has to uninstall synaptic in order to uninstall mintupdate? I did not think that was the case which is to what my comment referred, but I defer to others with more experience.

Re: More problems with update manager
Hi, SMG.
You wrote "I am not aware that synapitc is needed.". But synaptic is needed by mintupdate.
It is, however, really not required to uninstall synaptic as well, if you want to uninstall mintupdate.
In this sense, synaptic is not needed in the uninstall command above your sentence.
This was a classic example illlustrating that human language is not always unambiguous.
Cheers,
Karl

Definitely no improvement. Auto update does not function.

5. Unfortunately, Update Manager now also contains an automatic update feature. Thankfully it's not enabled by default, because updates should always be done consciously. So that they won't ever interrupt or damage your work.
