Post by AZgl1800 »

I have 19.3 Cinnamon,
Warpinator works a treat on my Android phone, and would love to get it installed on my laptop,

but the following code is giving errors

Code: Select all

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:clementlefebvre/grpc
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install warpinator

Code: Select all

john@FX705GM:~$ sudo apt-get install warpinator

I think that article is in error. There is no warpinator package in that PPA: https://launchpad.net/~clementlefebvre/ ... /+packages

If you want Warpinator on Linux Mint 19.x you can find it in the Flatpak category in Software Manager and install it from there.

I suspected that was the problem, but Warpinator does NOT exist in Software manager

It is included as part of the iso in 20.1.

A couple of remarks suggest that 19.3 & it are not very happy together..

I will not run 20.1 until it reaches 20.3 which is a personal hiccup, I don't like being a Guinea pig

Your choice, it has run flawlessly for me for the last few months. :D

However, you can now see that there are actually pluses as well as risks in being a willing Guinea pig.. :D

Be that as it may, I will NOT run any release until it reached xx.3

I have it in VB, which should be good enough, Warpinator is not working there either.

In all seriousness I would imagine running Warpinator in VirtualBox is a very difficult thing to achieve..

I will try running it from the desktop to my laptop later when I have both up & running..

Thank you, maybe I will repartition my SSD and put LM20 there in native mode.

I support a lot of folks for whom I have installed 18.3 and 19.3 Cinnamon, I just feel more comfortable with 19.3 as I know most of the command sets for it.....

I would agree that 19.3 is a rock solid release.
I never go for the .0 release but have been happy to try once it got to .1

I just tried to my Android phone - as that is what you are trying to do.
A failure, but I understand why...

The IP addresses on my desktop & on my Android phone are different - only in the last sequence xxx.xxx.x are identical but my desktop carries .36 as its last IP address digits & my phone carries .6

Will try with the laptop later..

Warpinator works a treat on my Android phone, and would love to get it installed on my laptop,
I know this is drifting slightly off topic, but...

Installed warpinator on my android phone as I realised my latest thinkpad T430 doesn't have bluetooth. Phone connected via wifi, sees the T430 but the T430 cannot see the phone, so could not transfer files? Does the android version communicate via bluetooth?

No problems PC to PC communication with warpinator. Running LM20.1.

My cellphone showed the IP address of my laptop, so Bluetooth was not involved Andy.

Why not just connect the phone to the laptop/desktop using a data transfer/charging cable and setting default USB configuration on the phone to transfer files? That's how I do it bi-directionally.

That's what I ended up doing :) But thought... my new T430 doesn't have bluetooth, I wonder can I use warpinator to tx a file (photo) to the laptop.
My cellphone showed the IP address of my laptop
So did mine, but the laptop was saying, in warpinator, it couldn't find anything, hence my question.

But I'll stop hijacking the thread :D I have other T430s with bluetooth and can try one of those and see if I still have a problem and start a new topic. It's not very high on my list of priorities.

AZgl1500 (John) - I'm competent when it comes to linux, but an illiterate when it comes to phones. How did you take a screenshot of your cell phone?

On the Samsung series of phones, it is a simultaneous press of Volume Down and Power buttons.

was very similar on other Androids, Google will tell you how to do a "Screenshot" for any cellphone .
that is what they are called; Screenshots.

then I use my ASUS File Manager to select "RECENT" and the latest files/images/PDFs etc, are displayed for selection.
I check off what I want, hit the 3 Dot hamburger menu top right corner,
select "Copy To"
then it asks how?
Select "Network"
then my Shared Folder shows up for my Laptop, and I press OK.

I can do that in 3 seconds flat.

I can use a USB charging cord, but it takes 20 times longer to find what I want, the ASUS File Manager does it in 3 seconds.

Works like a champ with a VMware VM (LM 20.1); only caveat is that I had to switch my network to Bridged from NAT (must be on the same network).
