I'm trying to install avidemux on 20.1 but no luck.
I tried the flatpak-based version suggested by the software manager. It starts but it's non-functional (trying to save does nothing). So I tried the appimage from the official download site and a version for an unofficial PPA.
Both these crash at start with the following error:

you can uninstall the one from your system and use the .appimage. i keep it in my videos folder and if needed it can be added to menu
avidemuxLinux_2.7.8_GLIBC_2.28_amd64.appImage
ps: after you dowload it the appimage needs to be made executable. rightclick on it > properties > permissions and CHECK the box for Execute:

So it works for you. What version of Mint are you using? Which desktop environment?

My guess is your original avidemux is working. The program has some quirks. If it opens a "Select File to Save" window after selecting File - Save, then it is probably working. Modify the video and save to another file name.

That's very similar to mine (where that same version appimage works) and i915 is what I expected from "iHD_drv_video.so" (if you internet search just "iHD_drv_video.so" you'll see a bunch of problems).

I'm at a loss except for perhaps try a difference kernel since it has the intel drivers.
FWIW, I'm using Kernel: 5.8.0-55-generic

If you have wine installed, the windows version of avidemux works perfectly in wine.

trying to save does nothing

My guess is your original avidemux is working. The program has some quirks. If it opens a "Select File to Save" window after selecting File - Save, then it is probably working. Modify the video and save to another file name.

It does not open the save dialog at all. That's the flatpak version. I did not check the console output with that one, though.

I'm at a loss except for perhaps try a difference kernel since it has the intel drivers.
FWIW, I'm using Kernel: 5.8.0-55-generic

I have to use that kernel (the 5.10 oem branch) since it's the only one supporting the Ax 500 (Wi-Fi & BT).

If you have wine installed, the windows version of avidemux works perfectly in wine.

You can see mine fails on probing for LIBVA, but the program runs fine. Maybe none of this is all that significant??

Try the "nightly" AppImage - the most recent release avidemuxUniversal_amd64_210611_124.app is from June 11. I think they use the .app extension to differentiate if from the regular AppImage releases, or it could be some other weirdness; regardless, it is an AppImage. It runs without error for me. (I still prefer kdenlive.)

Now, this is it. The latest nightly works just fine. Still would like to know what was wrong with the other versions but I guess I also have better ways to spend my time..

in this video mpv is looking for libcuda.so.1 which i don't have since i do not use nvidia in this system. what i don't understand is why developers assume libcuda will be available for someone that doesn't need it

to the OP: go to a video directory > open in terminal > type mpv and then drag a video in the terminal to get a listing of errors. do you have more than one error?
