Ahh, gotcha. Lots of people with that issue.
First order of business is to clean the computer. Take it apart and blow it out.
2nd - check the bios. It's probably not in there, but check for fan speed control.
3rd - Type this in a terminal:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxxxrz
Post the output in "Code" tags. The button that inserts these tags is marked </>
If your Linux Mint installation isn't in English, prefix any commands that you want to share output of with LC_ALL=C. That forces output to be English. For example instead of running the command "make", you'd run the command "LC_ALL=C make".

If you boot with the previous kernel, are rpms of fans normal?

I find two numbers in your inxi output unusual, strange.

Is your system overclocked? Maximum CPU speed 25500 MHz is strange! According to data from Intel, Max Turbo Frequency for your 130 W TDP
Core i7-3930K processor is 3.80 GHz.

You have a lot of used memory. What programs are you running? What is processor load when your fans are running at full speed?
