Rhythmbox crashes when connecting iPhone via USB

Post by it-place »

Hi all,

I'm running Linux Mint 20.1 with Rhythmbox 3.4.4. Rhythmbox crashes everytime when I'm connecting my iPhone with iOS 14.6 via USB to my PC.

dmesg says:

Code: Select all

[28549.662384] talpa-vfshook: atomic_open rescan with file object

I've also created a strace log while running Rhythmbox and connecting my iPhone. The last lines of the log are:

Code: Select all

getuid()                                = 1000
stat("/run", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0755, st_size=1280, ...}) = 0
stat("/run/mount/utab", 0x7ffe87248060) = -1 ENOENT (Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden)
write(2, "**\nRhythmbox:ERROR:rb-ipod-helpe"..., 105) = 105
fstat(1, {st_mode=S_IFCHR|0620, st_rdev=makedev(0x88, 0x2), ...}) = 0
write(1, "Bail out! Rhythmbox:ERROR:rb-ipo"..., 112) = 112
rt_sigprocmask(SIG_UNBLOCK, [ABRT], NULL, 8) = 0
rt_sigprocmask(SIG_BLOCK, ~[RTMIN RT_1], [], 8) = 0
getpid()                                = 12849
gettid()                                = 12849
tgkill(12849, 12849, SIGABRT)           = 0
rt_sigprocmask(SIG_SETMASK, [], NULL, 8) = 0
--- SIGABRT {si_signo=SIGABRT, si_code=SI_TKILL, si_pid=12849, si_uid=1000} ---
+++ killed by SIGABRT (core dumped) +++
Any ideas what went wrong here? :(

Regards - Olli

I wonder what the rb-ipod-helpe is referring to?

Seems Rhythmbox would normally have little or nothing to do with connecting the iphone.

Yes, you're right. It looks like that it has to do with the iPod plugin. If this plugin is disabled Rhythmbox would run normally and doesn't crash. :?

I have the same problem. Is there a fix to this? I am trying to get music from Mint 20.1 cinnamon onto my iphone SE and it is quite challenging to say the least!

I've also had this problem since mint 20, but with an iPod.

Rhythmbox won't run for more than 20 seconds whenever my iPod (nano gen3) is connected. I'd like to put some different music on it before it dies. :D

As we know most of apple devices require crappy itunes to work properly, Rhythmbox has bugs even on LM have you tried other music players from the software manager to see if you get the same problems? the default player is Celluoid have you tried that yet?
