Post by NTxLSdon3 »

Linux Mint Cinnamon 19.3 inxi -- CPU: Dual Core Intel Pentium G2030 Kernel: 5.4.0-80-generic x86_64 Up: 10h 53m Mem: 1302.4/3808.2 MiB (34.2%) bash 4.4.20 inxi: 3.0.32 Not a Programmer nor schooled in working with computers, recently changed from MicroBar`s Windows Win7 64 SP1 due to a HACK and takeover of my system. Now have lost my Panel, Menu, Icons, Network, etc. Cannot find how to recover that at the bottom of my screen.

Excuse me please? With all that I am involved in over the Network my memory is not what it should be.

Just found the </> button for the input of the " inxi " what was provided was just a plain 'inxi' report edited down to as few lines as possible, my understanding was to keep the below data as short as possible. Also forgot what the code symbol was, just found that.

Code: Select all

There were not any error codes just a blank screen with LM icon in the middle, not really familiar with Linux Mint yet have had to scrounge to get something to work with. I am connected with my router and on the net, found FF and ThndrB1rd to get to the Forums to learn what was needed by you. Have been up all night searching and reading all your requirements. If you need more just ask

I'm surprised you are having trouble with LM 19.3 4.4.8 Cin with 5.4 kernel. I would have expected that to just work.

Anyway, as an interim measure can you start Display (type cinnamon-settings display in a terminal) and select a resolution that displays your whole desktop.

Smurphos mentioned this a while back here viewtopic.php?t=313595 in addition to that .... cinnamon-settings panel .... command....if that , alone, doesn't bring it back or PRESENT the gui option to "add panel" to bring it back, you may need to reset any enabled panels to default

dconf reset /org/cinnamon/panels-enabled

Thank you 'Kind Person' for giving me some clues. When you know absolutely nothing about an O/S there is much to study. Not schooled nor trained, self-taught on all that I know and is mostly with MicroBarf`s MSDOS, WindBlows, /w some mainframe O/Ss and cannot remember their titles.

Will get to what you have provided ASAP! May be a little delay as it is nearing supper time here, hope all is going well with you.

*nods humbly*
I'm no Linux expert. That is for damn sure. People like KadaitchaMan, AndyMH, Smurphos, SMG, Moem, and plenty more here have far more room to talk than I do. My first full year of using Linux only....exclusively as my daily driver will be done the end of this coming Wednesday. It's been many temp dead ends, but like the old school board game Mouse Trap....I'm figuring it out xD

We're all eyes. Take your time.

All that may read this, it may get a little long, want you to know and understand me. I maybeee the most curious animal on this Earth. I Test, experiment, search for, data that will assist me in my work. NTxLSdon3

For what was given were about three (3) commands/instructions. Fourth (4) was irrelevant.

#1. from mikeflan » Sun Jul 25, 2021 9:17 am
(type cinnamon-settings display in a terminal)
"This is already set to proper 'Display' no activity required."

#2. motoryzen » Sun Jul 25, 2021 10:37 am
by Smurphos a while back . . .~
Did not view topic " viewtopic.php?t=313595 " I felt this was not the issue...
This is the ONE that did the correction of the error in my system, ' cinnamon-
panel ' was the 'Feature' to use by Adding New Panel with the ability
to place the Panel where I prefer, Top of Desktop
Display. Only one panel is used, no more.

#3. The last one was not even tested (dconf reset /org/cinnamon/panels-enabled),
wanted to get this done ASAP! No real details in this for brevity.
If you want them just ask.

motoryzen » Mon Jul 26, 2021 3:46 pm,

Thank you for the assistance and this reply, do not harm yourself doing that dance.

Now have the "Panel" at the top of my screen, was having issues when attempting to click on things that were near the bottom of window, kept getting to low and icons would sometimes get clicked. Another window would open and need to be closed, frustrating. That is no longer a problem with the panel at the top and "HIDDEN" until needed. Again "Thank YOU!"
