I have a HP240 laptop computer running Cinnamon 20.2 which I have had for about 2 months now. I bought it in order to teach a university course online, at first all seemed well but increasingly I have had intermittent problems with the sound when using Zoom. Students complain of echo and distortion and this seems to be happening increasingly. Obviously with my role as a tutor I cannot permit this problem to continue. Fortunately I have the laptop setup dualboot so for the last 2 days of class I have booted in windows 10 without any problems soundwise.
In Cinnamon I have adjusted the sound levels in Alsamixer. No mic boost and the other levels not showing red. In Zoom I have the sound filter set to low and have set the mic volume both automatically and manually. Nothing seems to help. I use a Jabra 410 conference mic and abandoning this doesn't seem to help either.
I have also noticed the message "Your high CPU usage is affecting meeting quality¨ even before I had downloaded any work documents at all (as in memory empty) and no webpages open.
Not super savvy even though I have been a Mint user for a long time, I am disappointed to have to revert to windows for my classes. Any help gratefully received.
