Photos sent via Bluetooth to desktop disappear?

Post by geekomatic »

I'm having a really odd issue trying to send photos from my mobile phone (Xiaomi Mi Max 2) to my desktop.

Linux Mint Mate, 17.1/64, (yes, I know it's old and I'm about to upgrade with new drives, but finding time is a problem, too!).

I installed gnome-user-share and went in (gnome-file-share-properties) to make sure it was set to receive/accept files. I then installed Blueman 1.23, which picked up and paired my phone. I used the pin code and it paired/is trusted. When I hit "send" from my phone, Blueman shows data transferring. I open my "Public" folder (default save location) and see the .jpg appear. However, within about 5 seconds, it disappears!? The phone then reports that the file transfer failed.

There's no problem sending from the desktop/PC to the phone.

Help?

Patience my friend. Everyone helping on here have real lives and those that know how to fix your problem may not be available. Please give it at least 24 hours before you bump again.

I use the stock bluetooth application. No idea what it is called, but you must accept the file. When you see the pop up on your PC does it ask you to hit the "Accept" button?

There's no "accept" or any sort of pop-up.

When I used the "stock" BT app, it didn't work at all-- that's when I found a lot of people having success with Blueman. As I say, it works PC-to-phone AND works phone-to-PC---> except the photo shows in the folder and then disappears? In Blueman, I can see the data transferring, so it IS working, I'm struggling to understand why Mint is deleting the photo?

Mint (and pretty much every operating system around) will delete the file it is creating, at the end of a process if it detects an error has occurred during the process of creating it. It does not want to leave a bad file for the user. So I would focus less on this part of it, and more on what is causing the Bluetooth receiver to error.

Though I imagine that it's going to be harder to help you with such an old version of Mint.

Yeah, it could be that. Still, bluetooth issues I see when I search are right straight through to today. It could also just be that over time, my particular Mint has developed issues I'm only now seeing-- like this one. I know the adapter works on Mint 19.2 (my laptop), I just prefer working on my main desktop.

Who knows, someone may still come along with an answer.

Cheers

I used to regularly transfer files via Bluetooth to my desktop. Currently running Mint 20.2. Though recently I've unplugged the adapter as it was draining too much current from the internal USB port. So I just use a cable instead

My mobile came with the charger cable (USB) as most do. However, I've noticed that it ONLY works properly with that specific cable. Due to this, I try to avoid using it's cable unless charging, hence trying BT.

I need to update to the current Mint is all. Just so hard to get the time. I have everything backed up to 2, 4TB externals using a toaster-- just have to tear apart the case to clean & install the new drives. Since I take so long to update, I just remove the current drives and tag/bag them. They boot-- so they're my backup (strategy). Considering they've been running every day, since 2014, I figure they deserve a rest- lol.

Next go-round, I'm attempting an adapter in my H97M-ITX/ac MB's 16x PCI-e slot to host an NVMe drive. Yeah, I know: "glutton for punishment", as my dear mum used to say. ;)

Unfortunately (for you ) Warpinator is a standard install for Mint 20. Though it can be built on previous versions, there are no instructions for Mint 17. Source and build instructions: https://github.com/linuxmint/warpinator

Unofficial version for Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... warpinator or https://f-droid.org/en/packages/slowscript.warpinator/

There are videos on youtube too, but I've not watched any so can't vouch for their usefulness.

For me at least, its easy to install from the software manager. You may have to install it by package. Instructions all over for this. STraight forward to do so
