Virtual Machine crashes after a few hours.

Post by Garloo »

Hey! I've been having trouble with a Virtualbox install of Windows10 LTSC. Everything's going fine for a couple hours, then it just spontaneously aborts. I've spoken to Virtualbox, and they don't see anything wrong with the logs. I've turned all the Sleep and Suspend things off in Mint, made the swap file 8 Gigs, and it still happens.

Just today I moved my VM to VMware, and got the same results! It ran fine for a while, then just locked up after several hours. This makes me wonder if there's some setting I'm unaware of in Mint that's choking them out after a while.

Mint's running fine, but I really need this VM to work, for one little thing. Can anyone think of anything I should check? Thanks!

Is virtualization enabled in BIOS ?

Hey! I'm pretty sure it is, but I will check again soon.

I was trying to narrow down the options as to what was breaking, but since I asked this question, I've put Win8.1 in a virtualbox and it's been running flawlessly for days. So I've come to believe that my version of Windows 10 was just busted.

I'm new to Linux, and wanted to make sure there wasn't some setting that I'd missed, but since my Win8.1 VM is doing fine, I have to assume it was my instance of Win10. I'm doing most of my stuff in Mint, but there's a music player I love that the author just refuses to port to Linux, so I need Windows in a box. ;)

Thank you for responding! Progress is being made. :)

If your Windows VM is broken for testing you can test a Mint or Ubuntu VM. If they work properly.

Why do you need an Enterprise version of Windows 10 to run a music player? Windows 10 Home is plenty.

I'm actually coming to Linux because I don't want to deal with Win10's telemetry, and the Enterprise version (and Education) are the ones where you can completely turn it off. I was trying to use the LTSC version, though, which is even MORE removed from all that nonsense.

But Win8.1 will run my music player, so I'm good for now. :)
