I understand that this calendar application requires Java8. I have uninstalled Java 11 and installed openjdk 8 headless however it still will not install the application. Is anyone else out using this calendar program on the desktop. Mint 19.3 Cinamon.
thanks

Re: Pimlico Software - Pimlical for Linux - Java
I'm thinking it is not used much.
This 12 year old topic:

that leads to "Buy this domain". Do you have a newer link for pimlico?

Re: Pimlico Software - Pimlical for Linux - Java
A search for "Pimlico software" returned this webpage: Pimlico Software
It is commercial software. - I mentions so because this may limit the chance of downloading it and trying to get it up and running, just in order to help the thread starter drryan.
The Ubuntu specific installation instructions clearly tell that Pimlico will not run with current openjdk-jre versions 11.x or higher; but that it depends on the genuine Oracle Java 8.
So be careful with that, because Oracle Java 8 is no longer supported. Plus near the end of the supported Oracle Java 8 life, Oracle kindly changed the license model from "usable for free" to "paid software".
Ever since, end users should, wherever possible, install and use the open source Java edition openjdk-jre 11.x or higher only. Avoids getting into license trouble.

Download Latest Release of Pimlical/Desktop - LINUX: wrote:LINUX: These notes apply to Ubuntu and may/should apply to other Linux Distros. Pimlical needs to run under Java 8. It will not at this time run under Java 11 due to changes introduced that were not backwards-compatible. It is possible this may be addressed in a future release. All the Oracle, Linux downloads for Java 8 are available at this link. One Linux user indicated that the only way they were able to load Java 8 was from the synaaptic package manager in Linux, and the filename to look for is openjdk-8-jre. Another user indicated that only Oracle's Java 8 appeared to work properly with Pimlical/Desktop.
If Java is not installed, you can issue these terminal commands:
When the installer exits, open a Terminal Window and issue this command:Code: Select all
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install oracle-java8-installer sudo apt-get install oracle-java8-set-default
sudo mv PimlicalApp /usr/local
(and enter your password when requested)
You may need to make the PimlicalJavaInstallxxxx.jar file executable in order to run it. If you are upgrading an existing installation, or want to uninstall Pimlical, you will first need to remove the existing Pimlical folder with this command (you may want to copy/paste this command to be 100% certain you don't mistype it!):
sudo rm -r /usr/local/PimlicalApp
