HPLIP not working
I just purchased a new HP Envy 6455e printer. I then connected the USB cable from the printer to my computer. I am running linux mint 20.2. When I tried to set it up using HPLIP by using HP setup. It could not find the printer. When checking into HP websites it is recommended that I install the latest version of HPLIP 3.21.8. Then I ran into the following
. How do I resolve the incompatibilities?

Re: HPLIP not working
hplip 3.21.2 is part of the base installation in LM20.2, so installation of hplip 3.21.8 may not be needed.
If you have found the solution to your initial post, please open your original post, click on the pencil, and add (Solved) to the Subject, it helps other users looking for help, and keeps the forum clean.
Re: HPLIP not working
The reason for trying to upgrade is the HPLIP 3.21.2 could not find the printer during setup. So, I still would really like to know how to resolve the python3 distro incompatibilities.
Re: HPLIP not working
I am going to try agian. First, what is the best way to completely remove the current version of HPLIP from my system before trying to install the update. So far, I have deleted it from the menu and have deleted any folders or files containing the name HPLIP.
Re: HPLIP not working
Run command which will remove hplip itself.
If you also installed hplip-gui run the same purge command for that package.
Code: Select all
sudo apt purge hplip
If you also installed hplip-gui run the same purge command for that package.
Re: HPLIP not working
Thank you for helping me to uninstall an older version HPLIP properly.
My next step is to install the latest version of HPLIP which is 3.21.8. So after downloading it and some checking I ran the following commands.
chmod -R 755 hplip-3.21.8.run
./hplip-3.21.8.run
It showed that there were missing universe and multiverse repositories. So, I quit the install and after more checking I ran the following commands
sudo add-apt-repository universe
sudo add-apt-repository multiverse
sudo apt update
Then I again tried to install HPLIP
./hplip-3.21.8.run
It now showed that the following commands did not work
sudo apt-get install --assume-yes libjpeg8-dev
Package install command failed with error code 100
Please check for more information at http://hplibopensourse.com/node/369
So, once again I quit the install.
I tried to go the recommended site and could not find anything useful. Any HELP would be greatly appreciated.

Re: HPLIP not working
According to the HPLIP website and its long list of supported printers the Envy 6000 series requires the 3.20.5 or newer version of hplip so the default in Mint should be good for you.
Re: HPLIP not working
Unfortunately, it does not work. So, I thought it can't hurt to try the latest version. Any help on getting my latest try to work would be appreciated.
Re: HPLIP not working
I contacted HP and they finally informed me that the ENVY HP 6455e cannot support the Linux operating system. So, I am giving up on installing the latest version of HPLIP. However, the printer is working fine without the HPLIP support program. I can easily print documents. I cannot use the scan feature on the printer. However, I can scan documents with the installed document scanner program. I can also manually copy documents. Without, HPLIP I cannot determine the ink levels. So, I will just wait until a document does not print properly and then change the cartridges.
I have been thinking about returning this printer since I was having so much trouble trying to install HPLIP. I have a few more weeks to make up my mind. Still uncertain. Any suggestions?

Re: HPLIP not working
if you open the PRINTERS folder; right-click on the icon that you think you are printing with;
drag the window to the right to open it: we are looking to see MAKE & MODEL
can you then take a screenshot and post the result back here please;
I suspect you may see something like

I suspect you may see something like
theHP Envy 6000 series, driverless, cups-filters 1.27.4
if it appears, would suggest hplip is playing no part .............driverless
Re: HPLIP not working
The printer is working fine in Linux mint 20.2. However, HPLIP does not work with this printer. I cannot post that this is solved. So, I am not sure how to close this post. What should I do?
Re: HPLIP not working
so you see that screenshot that you showed:
What I was suggesting to you then was:
in turn; make the window that opens for each one; move to the right; so we can see all the text;
I think they will show what I suggested; (ie hplip is not involved)
hplip is not involved; so I would suggest you can mark your post as SOLVED; as you have discovered hplip has not been used by your system: the inference being that hplip is no longer needed with newer versions of Mint
