Web Apps not working Linux Mint 20.2

Post by Rh2050mexico »

Hello. I did a fresh install of Linux Mint 20.2. My Web App was working but now it opens but will not open the browser. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Let me know what info you need from me. Thank you in advance.

My Web App
What is your web app? Or what is "My Web App"? It's obviously not your browser.

It's Mint's version of ICE app from Peppermint_OS.

Have you tried creating a new shortcut and specifying another browser? Any screenshots of what happens when you try to launch it would be helpful too.

It does not give the option for another browser. When I first set it up it provided me an option to choose firefox or chromium. Now it only has "web" and "internet".

That behaviour is completely normal. You can only choose a web browser for your app when you are creating it.
Does making a new app with another browser alleviate your problem?

It is not possible to change the browser used for a Web-App once it has been created. This is because it creates a new 'profile' to use for that specific web site, and a Firefox profile can't be used by Chromium, or vice versa.

@Rh2050mexico I don't know where the "Web Apps" program itself stores information about the web apps that it creates. On my system I have the 'desktop' file (used for launching) in $HOME/.local/share/applications and the unique profiles held within $HOME/.local/share/ice/firefox.

So if I look at the contents of $HOME/.local/share/applications/webapp-xxx999.desktop, I can see the command that is invoked when the web app is launched. This is on a line that starts with "Exec=". You can then copy the contents of that line onto the command line (and remove the "Exec=" part) to launch the web app directly.

For example:-

Code: Select all

sh -c 'firefox --class WebApp-xxx999 --profile /home/dave0808/.local/share/ice/firefox/xxx999 --no-remote https://www.xxx.com/example'
At that point, any errors that might occur will be visible.
