[Solved] Transfer system info by USB mini card/w adapter

Post by NTxLSdon3 »

Greetings from Texas,

You probably will think this is too long. Here goes, I have the "inxi -Fxxxrz" report for you but how to move it from my desktop to my laptop so it may get posted here. My Desktop is requiring a password that was not created by me. It will not hookup with the internet

I have a mini-card for moving that file, cannot figure out how to write that file to the card, formated to 'ext4' the system sees it 'not mounted'. Attempted to mount 'dev/sdb1' as identified by the system for my card. The TXT file is in folder Documents. Now how do I get the file on the USB card, cannot figure out that one issue.

Am not fuly up to speed with Linux yet, MSwindows was easy to learn, this one is not.

Attempted to mount 'dev/sdb1' as identified by the system for my card.
How did you try to mount the partition?

Plug in the drive, start 'Disks', and look for the drive. If you find it, mount it by hitting the button with the small triangle on it. Then run this in a terminal and post the results:

Code: Select all

Open 'terminal" typed "mount /dev/sdb1" did not know where to mount, figured the system would know.

Will be working on what you so graciously provided tonight. I sleep only about fifteen to twenty (15-20) minutes a night total, On occasion it may reach two (2) hours.

mikeflan,

Proceeded your instructions. Hopefully the data is within my card.

Thank you for being patient with me. Am not a trained user of Linux Mint Cinnamon v xx.xx or any other. Not trained in the use of any computers, all self-taught in using them, experimenting and learning what works and what not to use if results are not usable.

Evidently the data did not get written to my Mini Card, so will attempt to run the data again, (inixi -Fxxxrz). Nothing was shown to be placed on the card just the display, should I selelct the full amount and then tell the system to write to min-card? I keep telling people on here, am a 'dummy' NEWBIE!

mikeflan,

Please allow me another attempt at posting for you,

[code][/code] as you can see, there is little to show for this attempt as well. May I ask just how can one post, transfer any of this information to a mini card? Every thing used to make this happen has been a failure. I Mounted the card reader of my Inspiron 660 desktop and also my Inspiron 1564 laptop with out any success. Where can the instructions for doing this operation be found? All I can think of is using the Windblows terms and cannot find anything related to them within Linux.

No problem. We will stick with you and bring you up to speed on a few Linux things.
If you are trying to copy from the terminal you have to do Shift-Ctrl-c, not just Ctrl-c. I know - very confusing - but that is the way it is.
To paste into this forum just use Ctrl-v. Or you can right click copy in the terminal and right click paste in the forum.

mikeflan,

Now another attempt, this may be a little more successful, have verified the file is on my mini-card this time. Noticed it can be even done in HTML, think that would be a BAD idea. Here goes my next attempt:

Reason: appended the content of the attached file in the proper way by inserting it between [code] tags and switching BBCode on. Do not be so foolish to switch it off.

mikeflan,

Not accustomed to working with '.html' formatiitng, never came to my mind that is exactly what you need to read it in a browser. So here is another attempt to get the data to you in different format:

[code][/code]

Placed the file that is html in TXT format and it still will not post. I have a copy on my Lap Top.Just

Just received a notice from you system, "Rejected possible attack vector' whatever that means.

The LatestCreation.txt file that you attached worked fine. I see you are using LM 19.3 Cinnamon like me. It appears you might be doing fairly well with that.

Is your main problem the mounting of the mini-card? If so, plug in the drive, start 'Disks', and look for the drive. If you find it, mount it by hitting the button with the small triangle on it. Then run this in a terminal and post the results:

Code: Select all

df -Th
Did you install LM with a CD-Rom disk? If so, keep that disk. It is your "live boot".

mikeflan,

If I may post: My initial install was done using LMC v19.2 downloaded about two (2) years ago, never installed it back then. Was hacked by a scammer the end of February, 2021 that took over my computer. Needed to change from MSWindblows v7 and needed to make that change very rapidly. Had worked with some Linux software many years ago; Mandrake, Suse, and several others. Had this other computer here so installed the LMC v19.2 and started learning, not like a normal person as I am a very curious animal. Started working with computers using Data General 19 inch Main Frame rack mounted working for DoD (Department of Defence), U.S. Air Force as Electronics Technician. Am completely self taught. Not giving my complete back ground this should give you some clues. started with MS DOS v? about 1987 then Windblows v1.1 through Win7 installing my systems myself.

My main problem is with my desktop, Dell Inspiron 660 64bit, in my learning about security and in learning about "Password and Keyings" some where the system generated a password and I did not save any thing when within that program. Now the system is demanding a keyring password that was never created by me and cannot get back on the web. Have gone into that software and updated passwords and it will not accept the new ones, it wants the one that it says was created when installing the software, again there was not any created. Except for the one for my login and I have even gone in and changed that one and that original one as well as the one I changed too do not work. That is why I am using my laptop for these issues.

Even Dummies (Like ME!) can learn even the most simple operations.

I like your system, just a little confusing on what or how to use some of the software. My understanding of the software titles is my most difficult feature. Where might a person find/learn what is 'run-able' to be able to finish a task... Example: The only way I found to complete the saving of data about my system [deviced from 'Terminal' using 'inxi Fxxxrf'] was to place it within a "TXT" file, how can it be placed in any 'gif,' 'vid,' etc. for your system to use the '</>' for display?

Keep in mind that we want text output, not a graphic.
But to answer your question . . .

To create text output:
inxi -Fxxxrz > inxi.txt

Piping the terminal output to a png file is a bit more involved.
First you need to comment out a line in
/etc/ImageMagick-6/policy.xml
as described here:
https://ostechnix.com/save-linux-comman ... mage-file/

Which means this line:
<policy domain="path" rights="none" pattern="@*"/>

near the bottom of the policy.xml file needs to be changed to:
<!-- <policy domain="path" rights="none" pattern="@*"/> -->

Then you can do this:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxxxrz | convert label:@- inxi.png
But you don't use the code tags '</>' to post to the forum. You use Attach File and place it in-line.

which will not work, as long as BBCode has been switched off. Attaching possible, placing inline not. Also web addresses will not be displayed as clickable links. E.g.
