Default Keyring
I have the calendar app access my Google calendar. And the files also access my Google drive. So my Google drive just looks like another folder on the machine.
However, every time I start my machine I have to enter a default keyring. I tried to take a screenshot of it, but when I start my machine it's a popup and I can't access anything else until I either enter the keyring or cancel the action. If I cancel it, then it won't access calendar or files.
Is there a way to make that retain that keyring so I don't have to type it in every time I boot up?

Re: Default Keyring
Certain applications store credentials in the user's secure storage aka "keyring". This is unlocked when you login providing that you login with your password. If your system doesn't prompt for your password, your keyring remains locked. Hence, when you (or an application on your behalf) try to access credentials, you're prompted for your password.
Look in the start menu for the program "Passwords and Keys". It may open within a specific section such as "GnuPG Keys" in which case press the "back" button in the top-left of the title bar. Under the section header "Passwords" there is "Login". Click on that and you'll either see a list of the stored credentials (if unlocked), or there will be a message "Keyring is locked" and a button to unlock.
If you want to unlock this automatically, set your "Login Window" settings. Under "Users", remove your username from the "Automatic login" section. This will mean that you enter your password every time you login after booting up. But then your keyring will be unlocked and your calendar should update.

Re: Default Keyring
I think "Default keyring" is just the name used on a different Desktop Environment or version of the program.
The important bit here is that you have an "unlocked" padlock icon, so that means that the credentials within are accessible to the programs that stored them there.

Re: Default Keyring
well, i get the prompt to unlock every time i boot up and it started showing up not immediately after i installed Mint and set to auto login, this started showing up after a while and I'd like it to just auto unlock.

Re: Default Keyring
So you need to disable the automatic login as per my previous post. That will, of course, mean that you have to manually login, with your password, which in turn will automatically unlock this keyring. That should be it.
Re: Default Keyring
surely there's a solution? not pest or cholera so to speak?
i found this topic viewtopic.php?t=198767 proclaiming a solution but the url to that solution is a 404.

Re: Default Keyring
A solution to what exactly? Are you wanting an unlocked keyring without supplying your login credentials?

Re: Default Keyring
well i set auto login so i wouldn't have to enter password upon starting my computer so this prompt by seahorse or whatever it's called to ask me for a password kinda defeats the purpose.

Re: Default Keyring
Understood. Therefore you either have to login in order to unlock your keyring... or you follow the link provided by @JoeFootball and from then on, enter all your passwords manually for websites, email, etc as and when required.

Re: Default Keyring
Mint appears to have Seahorse (Password & Keys) installed by default. If you want to remove the current keyring login, you need to remove it in Seahorse. Then, when you open the app (Calendar), it will ask for the password but because you had removed it already it will want you to create a new password. All you do is leave the password field blank and hit "continue". It will of course complain bitterly that you haven't created a password but just hit "continue" again and it will leave you alone.
If that is clear as mud, here is a youtube video that explains it :
