Issue Running Accordance 13 Under WINE

Post by parkernathan »

I'm trying to run Accordance 13.3.2 for Windows on WINE 6.0.2 on Linux Mint Uma Cinnamon.

Accordance installs, but does not run when I click its icon in the Linux Mint Menu,

I did install Accordance to its own WINE prefix (.wineaccordance) so it would not conflict with other WINE/Windows apps (something that has occurred in the past).

When I attempt to launch the Accordance EXE in the Terminal, here's the output I'm receiving:

Code: Select all

WINEPREFIX="/home/parkernathan/.wineaccordance/" wine "/home/parkernathan/.wineaccordance/dosdevices/c:/Program Files (x86)/OakTree/Accordance/Accordance.exe"

If someone has any suggestions on this, that would be great, as this is one final Windows program that if I can get it running on Linux Mint under WINE, I can likely switch to Linux Mint as my everyday OS over Mac and Windows.

Thanks!

Not all windows programs will run under wine.
I run some winwoes programs using Crossover with wine you could try that. If it still won't run then you are out of luck.

Should I try an earlier version? Their earlier versions still are supported for a long time (they just recently phased out support for v9, and even then, they helped me get it running on a super old machine).

What's strange is this program is a lot lighter than the other tool I use (Logos), and I managed to get Logos running on WINE. If Logos can run on WINE, this one theoretically should be easer to get running on it. Logos is a behemoth.

I have a VM I can fall back on if I need it, but if I can somehow pull this off running on WINE, then all of my major Windows apps would be running successfully on WINE without the need of a VM.

Thanks!

You can d/l Crossover and it will allow you to run winwoes that it supports for a period before registration is required. If it won't run in that then as I said you maybe out of luck. You could try an earlier version but I doubt you would be successful.

Crossover is just a front end for Wine. So is PLayOnLinux, actually all similar products are AFAIK. I'd probably go for PlayOnLinux because it'll handle the Wine version for you.

As mentioned, WIne is unreliable, in fact it usually fails. You simply cannot expect Windows apps to work with it. The Accordance entry in the Wine app database is a bit old but no so encouraging: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager. ... &iId=16120

You may want to try the Wine forums.

Whatever you do, don't go blindly copying/pasting things into the terminal from old pages. In Linux you want fixes for your point release, for Mint 20.x that's Ubuntu 20.04.

Good info!

Here's the latest on this. I have been able to isolate the specific error message. There's another similar app also throwing a similar error message that is supposed to run flawlessly on WINE. I have someone checking into it to see if they can figure it out. If they can, then there's two apps I'll be able to run on WINE.

In the meantime, I tried an earlier version, and it did successfully launch on WINE. I could probably get the majority of my books to load in the earlier version (the rest I have in another app) and most of the major features I use.

So all is not 100% lost yet.

Thanks!

The previous version of Accordance on WINE hit a brick wall, so I've scrapped that version.

I may give it a spin on PlayOnLinux or a CrossOver trial.

It's "possible" that Accordance is hiring me this year as a consultant. If they do, I'll have direct access to their Windows developer and can find out more about dependencies that the Windows version needs, plus with the extra income, I'd probably go ahead and invest in CrossOver. I'll have more resources to investigate this further (and actually get paid to do it). In the meantime, I'll keep using it on my other Mac at the moment, and I could throw it in a Windows VM if need be.

Thanks again!
