Today I have also tried to install KDE Connect 1.4.0 on Linux Mint 20.2 Cinnamon. First it would not open at all as also reported in viewtopic.php?t=341235 Solutions described in that thread did not work for me.
Four steps were required to resolve this problem:
1. Add relevant firewall rules. This does not work with gUFW and selecting rules for KDE Connect. <Apply> button remains grayed out. Instead use CLI as decribed in KDE Connect Wiki:
sudo ufw allow 1714:1764/udp
sudo ufw allow 1714:1764/tcp
sudo ufw reload
2. Add KDEConnect Applet to panel (KDE Connect Control Center could also work, but I preferred KDEConnect Applet);
3. Pair computer with Android phone;
4. Reboot computer (not sure if and why necessary, but after reboot "Mount and Browse" from KDEConnect Applet opened immediately).
Main usage for me is file transfer from phone to computer. This requires configuration of "Filesystem expose" plugin in KDE Connect on Android phone. Add relevant storage locations for browsing from Linux machine. These can then be accessed via "Mount and Browse" from KDEConnect Applet.
