No sound in Headphones, HDMI audio works

Post by JonesA »

Hello,

From the past few weeks, I've been on and off having issues with sound on Linux Mint 20.2. HDMI audio works fine but Headphones don't. Sometimes if I mute and unmute the Headphones a couple of times(hearing a tick in the headphones while doing so), I first hear a crackling sound and then audio starts working. Now even that "workaround" isn't working. I've searched a lot about this on the internet and tried numerous things to no avail. Tried different Kernels but that also didn't work. The motherboard has 8 rear outputs, 1 rear input and 1 front input along with a front output as well. The model is a Realtek ALC892.

Software:
PulseAudio along with PulseEffects
Alsa

OS Information:
Linux Mint 20.2
KDE Plasma 5.18.5
Linux 5.13.0-22-generic

Output of inxi -Fxxxrz

Re: No sound in Headphones, HDMI audio works

Post by JonesA »

UPDATE: I have tried a USB sound card and it works fine just like HDMI. Only the built-in Realtek ALC892 is not working. What could be the problem in this case? It used to work fine for a long time until this problem started last month.

Code: Select all

pulseaudio -vvv
doesn't seem to show any errors or warnings. Changing volume or muting/unmuting in Alsamixer also doesn't make any difference.

Things I have tried:
  • Reinstalling alsa-base, pulseaudio, libcanberra-pulse, alsa-utils, alsa-tools, alsa-ucm-conf, gstreamer1.0-pulseaudio, alsa-firmware-loaders
  • Changing volume, muting/unmuting in alsamixer
  • Changing sound profiles from pavucontrol
  • Restarting pulseaudio and alsa
  • Different Kernels
  • Editing .config/pulse/daemon.conf
  • Editing /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
  • Checking pulseaudio logs
  • Switching between rear and front output
Any help is appreciated.
