[PARTIALLY SOLVED] Firefox doesn't use the right dictionnary since 96.0

Post by pwozniak »

I'm French and my Mint setup is all in French (fr-fr).
Since the update to 96.0 version, when I type text in textarea or input type text, all my "French" words are underlined as if theses word are not in dictionary.
When I type English words all works great.

With windows version no problem !
With Linux downloadable version from mozilla website it works too.

Why the 96.0 Mint version doesn't work in French ?

I'd like to say that the "firefox-locale-fr/una,now 96.0+linuxmint1+una amd64" package is installed on my computer and all menus are in French

In the Linux Mint Blog: Updating to Firefox 96 there is a section regarding "Spell check and dictionaries". See if anything there helps.

Additionally, there are comments to the blog post related to dictionaries such as Clem's response to this post. Clem has indicated he has been updating the blog post based on feedback in the comments so maybe reading all the comments may not be necessary to address your issue.

Thanks @SMG ! :D
The indicated post is my solution.

Sad that now dictionaries aren't directly included with language pack after update :(

Now with 96.0.1 a new issue occurs...
The "right click" menu is partially in English ! All other menus are in French...

I have been disenchanted with the FF dictionaries for decades,
they insist on the British words, even though I specify en-usa

and, when I ADD a word, that word is Never Included as a possible spelling for a word that has only 1 character miss-typed.

MS Word includes added words to the Dictionaries, so why can't Mozilla?

Is that a change from what was in 96.0? Or had you not checked that in 96.0? The reason I ask is the release notes for Firefox 96.0.1 is very short and I do not see anything which might relate to that.
