Go to File, Right Mouse Click on it & then select Properties from the drop down list.
Go to Permissions tab & tick box Allow executing File as a Program.
Mouse Click - open, or double mouse click, on the File.
In the pop-up request select 'Open in Terminal'.
Done....

Re: Install 2D QCAD
Thanks for your reply.
Have done all that. Nothing happens on display, or run, but in 'run from terminal' it goes briefly to this message and then nothing.
'Checking Archive Integrity'
In Properties/Permissions there are 3 headings as well as tickbox. They are all read/write and box is checked for execution.
Can I enter a terminal code to open from folder ?
Thakyou

Yes file size is 114.7MB
Hash is a new term to me. How do I check to see if all there?
Thankyou
Charles

As I said before, Run in Terminal is the choice to make.sswcharlie wrote: ⤴Sun Jan 16, 2022 5:34 pm Have done all that. Nothing happens on display, or run, but in 'run from terminal' it goes briefly to this message and then nothing.

A Terminal then opens uncompresses the file & installs files. Then the Terminal automatically closes & QCAD is available in the Menu.
Re: Install 2D QCAD
check your menu .... it may well have installed, if not advise and we'll go further

Hi Maxwell-J
Made some progress just now. I downloaded a different file off the QCad web page a tar.gz file. Now opens ok and have done the 'extract'.
Only to find a message not enough room on this device !!It is on a laptop which I do know is getting quite full. Will clear the decks onto a usb and then try again. I was looking to go to another laptop I have a 64 bit with heaps of room, but needs some small repairs first.
Just put on hold for now and I will get back to you in a few days.
Thanks
Charles

Re: Install 2D QCAD
Looking in my bash history
Dowloads being the directory that the .run went when it was downloaded.
That matches the instructions found on QCAD site: https://qcad.org/en/documentation/insta ... ler_(.run)
There should be a desktop shortcut if .run was successful but that's probably optional.
It wants to place itself in home/yourself/opt , but I think that's also optional.
To run it from command line:
Providing it was allowed to place itself in that directory
That's the generic linux install, no doubt the other suggestions above are as good or better.
Code: Select all
cd Downloads/
chmod a+x qcad-3.26.4-trial-linux-x86_64.run
./qcad-3.26.4-trial-linux-x86_64.run

Why the 32 bit qcad?
Is your Mint 32 bit ?

Re: Install 2D QCAD

Re: Install 2D QCAD
Sorry it was intended to OP.
Longtime QCAD user here, back to Windows XP days. It's old-school but awesome for dxf and also some svg stuff.
The 3 lines of code I posted earlier worked in current Mint and also previous Mint. Just what I know to work, not the only way. It's not copy-paste but OP will spot that.
The 32 bit qcad installer is known problematic in 64 bit system, so I figured it best to ask.
