when browsing to the top level of an nfs directory, e.g.
/media/nfs4/directory
none of the GUI file browsers will not allow the creation of a folder at the top level under directory.
however if you go into that directory with the command line, and
mkdir test
it works no problem, and can be removed too.
This is a reproducible problem and weirdly, is consistent across the GUI file managers.
mc (midnight commander) works correctly, just like the command line does.
any ideas as to what might be going on ?
edit: and i should add that if you create the folder on the command line the file manager will allow you to delete, thereby demonstrating that the user has access to the top level of the directory.

Re: file manager gets nfs4 file permissions wrong
NTFS in recent versions of Windows is weird. I used to see that type of error when one of my computers was infected with Windows 10. Never back in the day with Windows 7. I assume you are dual booting. Is faststart off and Windows switched off, not just hibernating? Windows leaves NTFS in weird states if Windows is not completely shut down before you mount the NTFS partition in Linux.

NFS. Not NTFS
The file browser gets the permissions wrong, but only on the top level dir.
p.s. this is absolutely a bug, but i have no idea what package the browsers are in so i can't file a bug report.
