CherryTree menu bar has disappeared

Post by Phyneas »

Hi, I haven't used CherryTree in a while, and opened it up today when my cat jumped on my keyboard and was all over the place. When I got her down, I noticed that the menu bar (File, Edit, Tools) wasn't visible. Now I don't know for sure if it was removed in the most recent update, or if something my cat did hide it, but does anyone know how to restore it?

With a lot of programs this problem can be solved by opening the program and typing Ctrl-M, try that.

In the Cherrytree I have installed (v 99.45) the menu bar is toggled on and off with F12.

Hi - First Post
Ubuntu 20.04

I upgraded Cherry Tree from 99.29 ---> 99.59 and have lost my Menu Bar.
When I hit F12, I do not get a Menu Bar, but I get "Show MenuBar : F12" displayed. This toggles Off/On as I hit F12.

Can I go back to an earlier rev.? I am concerned about losing my Data.

Thanks for any help,
M....

Yes. Real easy with Timeshift. And also possible if you don't have Timeshift.

What is Timeshift
It is a system restore utility. You start it from the menu and set it up to record snapshots on an EXT4 partition. It won't help you this time, but could help a lot in the future. It can use quite a bit of space, so make sure you have at least 30 GB space available for it before you start.

To fix your problem I suggest you shutdown CherryTree, find the configuration directory for CherryTree, and rename it with "-OLD" at the end. Then restart CherryTree. Is the menu back then? The configuration directory for CherryTree might be something like ~/.config/cherrytree/.

Hi and thanks for the prompt responses.
I think I'm going to live with the "no menubar" for now - I will use these commands instead:

File - Alt f
Edit - Alt e
Insert - Alt i
Format - Alt o
Tree - Alt t
Search - Alt s
View - Alt v
Bookmarks - Alt b
Import - Alt f
Export - Alt f

It's all good.
Thanks,
M...
