Cheese is useless - no other options for webcams in software manager [Solved - thanks HAWR]

Post by norse »

All I get is a translucent screen that gives a transparency so you can see the windows behind it. No real options that help you to solve this problem, just basic resolution options.

Is this normal?

Hello norse,

I think, your are using an integrated laptop webcam. Is the room well lit?

Try it with the program guvcview in the software manager. And you can also try it via browser:

No, it's not. Something wrong somewhere, but I doubt it's with Cheese. Maybe graphics driver? Anyway, Cheese works well for me. Might try Webcamoid also. It provides many more settings and options compared to Cheese.

Not a laptop, a linux compaitble webcam just bought.

It simply does not show up in the browser with cheese.

But I hav just installed guycview, and that looks like a real professional piece of software. Is that OS? Looks good. Thanks for showing me an alternative.

Cheers!

Hello norse,
Is that OS?
What do exactly mean? Is your problem solved with guvcview or do you have still picture problems?

Nononono, just asking if its Open Source?

The s/w seems a long way ahead of cheese which is basic and crap, whereas as this is really nice. I like it.

Yes. I just asked, because "OS is for me the abbreviation for "Operating System" like Linux, Windows etc. :)

OK, sounds good! OS is a pretty unfortunate acronym.

Thanks again HAWR.
