The text editor (occasionally called Xed within Mint) is quick and easy for almost everything I want it to do.
Except the horizontal scroll bar. Sometimes, arbitrarily I have to click that because it shifts my wordwrapped text off kilter into a bunch of meaningless white space. I tried playing around with Preferences to "split words over two lines" which got rid of the horizontal scroll bar but then the text looks ugly when it breaks words across the line. Sometimes I paste URLs into a file so I guess that's why the horizontal bar shows up at all, but it is always annoying
How do I eliminate the horizontal scrolling while keeping traditional word wrap?

Try Nano in the terminal or some other text editor that shows continuation to the right of the screen in some other manner.
