[SOLVED] Libre Office spellchecker not spellchecking

Post by jazz pigeon »

Libre Office 6.0.73. All boxes checked, all dictionaries/language packages installed etc. But it does not spellcheck any more. (English (GB). I'm out of ideas.

With shift-F7 you can toggle spell checking on and off. Did you try that?
You can also press F7 and that should pop up the spell check window.
If you think the issue is solved, edit your original post and add the word solved to the title.

Making sure you got all of them. And that in Tools > Language, "For Selection", "For Paragraph", and "For All Text" are not "None (Do not check spelling)".

Checked those boxes too and they were already ticked. F7 doesn't get me anywhere. It brings the dialogue box up but it claims to have finished when it hasn't.

I can confirm that it tries to check, but the options for correct words are useles

I just typed this on purpose

Whan dot aprila the draught of march is now

and the ONLY word it provided a suggestion for was draught

it did underline the 1st, 3rd, 5th words, did not catch 'March' at all, when it should have asked if I meant walking or the month of March.

If I am serious about wanting to type a document, I go back to MS Office Pro 2003 where Word will keep my AutoCorrect suggestions for errors like that.

LibreOffice is so far behind MS Office it hurts.

Turns out there was one box I hadn't ticked and that appears to have solved it. Waiting to see if it reverts, before marking this solved. (Tools > Auto Correct menus.)

You can add things like that to LibreOffice's auto-correction. I just tried it, it works.

(But if I'm typing out anything, I turn on my Windows machine and use WordPerfect. To me, it beats the crap out of both MS Word and LibreOffice.)

I can also confirm that I rue the end of WordPerfect.
It was just simply Perfect, and it worked, right, every time.

sigh, MS slue that app.
Well, not completely, Corel owns it now, for a fee.
